JEE Mains Paper 2: Examination Overview, Pattern for B.Arch & B.Planning Admissions?

JEE Mains Paper 2 is the national-level entrance examination conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) for candidates seeking admission into B.Arch Bachelor in Architecture and B.Planning (Bachelor of Planning) programs at SPAs (School of Planning and Architecture), NITs (National Institute of Technology), other Centrally Funded Technical Institutions (CFTIs), and State Funded Technical Institutes (SFTIs) in India.

Key Features of JEE Mains Paper 2 (2026 Updated Information)

    Exam Sessions:
  • JEE Mains Paper 2A (B.Arch) and Paper 2B (B.Planning) are conducted twice each yearin January and April. Students may appear in either one or both sessions within an academic year. If a candidate takes both sessions, only the best score out of the two attempts will be considered for merit ranking.
    1. Purpose and Benefits:
  • Offers two opportunities in an academic year for candidates to improve their scores.
  • Reduces the risk of losing an entire academic year if a student is unable to attend one session due to Board exams or other reasons.
  • Provides candidates with practical experience of the examination, allowing them to improve on the basis of their first attempt.
  • Ensures that the best NTA score out of two sessions will be used for ranking, enabling optimal outcomes for college admission.
    1. Exam Pattern and Mode:
  • Paper 2A (B.Arch): Mathematics (CBT), Aptitude (CBT), and Drawing (pen and paper, offline).
  • Paper 2B (B.Planning): Mathematics (CBT), Aptitude (CBT), and Planning-Based MCQs (CBT).
  • Both exams are 3 hours in duration (3 hours 30 minutes if both Paper 2A and 2B are attempted together). Negative marking is applicable.
    1. Eligibility:
  • Candidates who have passed Class XII (or equivalent) in 2024, 2025, or are appearing in 2026 are eligible. There is no age limit for appearing in the exam (institutional age limits may apply).
    1. Score and Ranking:
  • The NTA evaluates and declares scores after each session. For those appearing in both sessions, only the best of the two NTA scores (total, not per subject) is used for the final merit list and ranking.
    1. Application Process:
  • Candidates can apply for one or both sessions. Separate application windows and fee payments are available for the two sessions. Fees are paid online, and candidates must use unique credentials for the application process.
    1. Admission Process:
  • Admission to SPAs, NITs, and other institutions is based on the All India Rank prepared through the best NTA scores as per the seat allocation and eligibility criteria set by the respective colleges and authorities (JoSAA/CSAB).
