About NATA 2026
The National Aptitude Test in Architecture (NATA) is conducted by the Council of Architecture (CoA), a statutory body of the Ministry of Education, Government of India. NATA is the mandatory qualifier for admission to the 5-year B.Arch. degree program across India.
Core Purpose
NATA measures innate creative and analytical instincts. It assesses spatial reasoning, visual perception, aesthetic sensitivity, and critical thinking.
Current Institutions
Presently, there are approximately 369 institutions in India imparting recognized architectural education.
Examination Format (200 Marks)
NATA 2026 consists of two distinct parts to evaluate different skill sets:

Important 2026 Changes
- Single Phase Appearance: Candidates are permitted to appear in only one Phase (either Phase 1 or Phase 2).
- Phase 1 (Main Intake): Conducted from April 4 to June 13, 2026, offering up to two attempts with percentile scoring.
- Phase 2 (Supplementary): Held on August 7 & 8, 2026, for vacant seats only, providing raw scores.
- Language: The medium of the aptitude test is English and Hindi.
Note: A valid NATA score alone does not guarantee a seat. Candidates must apply separately to competent admission authorities for centralized counseling (CAP).

- Purpose: Used for Centralized Admission Counseling (CAP).
- Dates: August 7 & 8, 2026
- Attempts: Only 1 attempt permitted.
- Scoring: Only Raw Scores provided (No Percentile).
- Eligibility: Only for those who did not appear in Phase 1.

- A1: Composition and Color (25 Marks)
- A2: Sketching & Composition – B&W (25 Marks)

Part B: MCQ & NCQ

Candidates must choose only one phase for the 2026 academic session.
Phase 1 (CAP)
- Attempts: Up to 2 allowed.
- Scoring: Percentile-based (Best score considered).
- Usage: Main Centralized Admission Process.
Phase 2 (Vacant)
- Attempts: 1 attempt only.
- Scoring: Raw score only (No percentile).
- Usage: Institutional vacant seats only.

NATA 2026 Eligibility Criteria
- Candidates who have passed or are appearing in the 10+2 examination.
- Candidates who have passed or are appearing in a 10+3 Diploma with Mathematics.
- 10+2 Requirements: Must have Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects.
- Third Subject: Chemistry, Biology, Computer Science, IT, or Technical Vocational subjects.
- Minimum Aggregate: At least 45% marks in total.
- Diploma Path: 10+3 Diploma with Mathematics and minimum 45% aggregate marks.
Pattern of Questions and mode of Answering
- The aptitude test will comprise of questions that could be of the Multiple-Choice type (MCQ), Multiple Select type (MSQ), Preferential Choice type (PCQ) and Numerical Answer type (NAQ).
- 25 Marks A1: Composition and Color Creating suitable compositions for various situations, rearranging shapes in a visually appealing manner, and coloring them appropriately.
- 25 Marks A2: Sketching & Composition (B&W) Ability to visualize and draw situations involving buildings, people, and products with an understanding of scale, proportion, texture, and shadows.
- 30 Marks A3: 3D Composition Creating interesting 3D compositions for a given situation using a provided kit.
- Visual Reasoning Understanding and reconstructing 2D and 3D compositions and technical concepts.
- Logical Derivation Ability to decode situations/contexts and draw conclusions from hidden information.
- G.K., Architecture & Design Awareness of important buildings, historical progression, and innovations in construction technology.
- Design Sensitivity Ability to observe and analyze people, space, products, and environmental metaphors.
- Numerical Ability Basic Mathematics associated with creative thinking and geometry.
- Language Interpretation Correctly generating meaning from English words, sentences, and grammar.
