Bachelor of Architecture
A complete guide to India’s 5-year architecture degree — entrance exams, eligibility, top colleges, admission process, and career opportunities after B.Arch.
What is B.Arch?
B.Arch (Bachelor of Architecture) is a full-time 5-year undergraduate degree program in India that trains students to design and plan buildings, urban spaces, and environments.
The Role of an Architect
Architects design everything from homes and corporate buildings to bridges and monuments. They integrate knowledge of terrain, climate, materials, and structural engineering to create spaces that are safe, sustainable, and earthquake-resistant.
Degree Structure
The B.Arch program spans 5 years with 10 semesters. The 5th year includes a mandatory internship at a reputed architecture firm, giving students hands-on experience before entering the profession.
Governed by COA
The Council of Architecture (COA) is the statutory body that regulates architectural education and practice in India. Only a COA-recognised B.Arch degree makes you a certified, licensed architect in India.
Mandatory Licensing
On completing B.Arch, students receive a COA license certifying them as professional architects. Without this license, you cannot legally practice or call yourself a recognised architect in India.
Eligibility Criteria for B.Arch 2026
To appear for NATA or JEE Main Paper 2 and pursue B.Arch, candidates must meet the following academic requirements set by COA and NTA.
Minimum Eligibility Checklist
Important 2026 Update: JEE Main Paper 2 eligibility now also accepts Biology, Technical Vocational subjects, Computer Science, IT, Informatics Practices, Engineering Graphics, or Business Studies as the third subject alongside Physics & Maths.
